Midstage Travelers & Rear Travelers

These curtains are used to divide the stage and turn it into a smaller acting area. They are also used to hide equipment and mask areas upstage of the proscenium curtains leaving an entry way to the stage in between curtain sets. Mid and Rear Travelers are usually made with fullness (pleated) and consist of two panels that part from the center and stack on the sides. Since these curtains are usually exposed to “heavy on-stage traffic”; while not necessary, often times it is recommended for the drapes to be lined to protect the face fabric, adding years of life to the curtain and also helping with opacity.

Midstage Travelers & Rear Travelers

Our recommended fabric choices for a mid-traveler or rear traveler include - but are not limited to - Cotton Velour 25oz FR and Synthetic Encore Velour 22oz IFR, since these two fabrics offer good opacity. For school projects, vinyl backed Doral Opaque 21oz IFR is also recommended for its opacity, durability and Inherently Flame Resistant properties.
For projects with restricted budget, an economical alternative that offers fair opacity is the 18oz Atlas Oxford Repp FR or the Commando 16oz FR. If looking for a more economical velour material, also consider using the Synthetic Encore Velour 15oz DFR or the Cotton Velour 16oz FR.
If you choose to add a drapery liner, we recommend Denim Lining 9oz FR for cotton drapes and Poplin lining IFR for the synthetic curtains.
You can also visit the fabrics section of our website to see all our flame retardant fabric choices.

The recommended curtain track for most standard traveler curtains is the BESTEEL® 170 Series curtain track, and for larger drapery applications the SILENT STEEL® 280 Series curtain track. On occations and on stages where there are some space restrictions, a traveler is installed on a RIG-I-FLEX® 140 Series curtain track or a TRIPL-I-TRAC® 420 Series curtain track curved track that bends parallel to the side walls allowing for the curtain to stack out of the way without reducing the stage space. This setup can be used for both bi-parting curtains and one way draw curtains.
NOTE: If you are unsure of which theater curtain track would work best for your application, you can visit our curtain track selector guide, or contact us and one of our experienced sales representatives will gladly assist you!
